Acupuncture is part of an ancient system of healing which has been practised in China for thousands of years. It is based on the belief that the balance of an underlying energy or Qi is responsible for our well-being.
The acupuncturist decides exactly what imbalance a patient has by asking a number of questions and observing their pulse and tongue. Fine sterile needles are then inserted (fairly painlessly) into points along channels where the Qi flows. They are retained for around 20 minutes during which a deep feeling of relaxation is usually experienced. This restores the balance of Qi which improves health and well-being.
A course of treatment of around 6 to 10 sessions is often necessary, depending on the severity of the problem. Treatment costs may be reimbursed by some health insurance schemes such as HSA and the Co-op.
I'm a well qualified and enormously experienced practitioner of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, having qualified in 1989 and in continuing practice since. Alongside private practice I worked for 12 years in an NHS medical centre where I led a successful study to prove the efficacy of acupuncture in benefiting their patients.
I'm good at helping with all sorts of health challenges from the common to the obscure and have a particular interest in women's health issues such as PMT, menstrual irregularities, fertility, pregnancy, natural childbirth and menopause.
Other conditions which I have found respond particularly well are:- headaches and migraine, digestive problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, insomnia, anxiety and depression, dizziness, skin conditions, poor immunity, aiding recovery from flu and other viral infections, plus treating painful joints such as knees or elbows and back pain.
