The use of healing stones and the benefits of their alternating temperatures have been a part of ancient rituals and ceremonial practices for thousands of years.
In 1993, Mary Nelson developed a set of massage techniques which incorporate and build upon these practices bringing them into modern day health care, namely LaStone Therapy. The result is a truly luxurious massage experience for those who want to be pampered and equally fabulous for those who seek a genuinely holistic treatment for body, mind and soul.
The stones are basalt formed from molten volcanic rock that has been eroded over thousands of years by rivers and the sea. This molten rock contains many minerals and iron ore, which is an excellent conductor of heat. Once heated the volcanic stones transfer their thermal energy deep into the body tissue stimulating micro-circulation, cell function, metabolism and tissue repair. Lois’s treatment alternates the use of deliciously hot stones for massage, followed by subtly cooled marble, carefully placed on specific areas of the body. The combination of hot and cold creates “vascular gymnastics" in the circulatory system to help the body detoxify and heal.
Lois has been a massage practitioner since 1995. She originally trained in Edinburgh obtaining an ITEC Diploma in Swedish Therapeutic Massage. In 1997 she also gained qualifications in Reiki and Colour Therapy. Lois successfully completed both the Original Body Course and Sacred Stones training in 2005. She has been working as a LaStone Therapist since then and has gained considerable experience helping a wide range of clients. These different approaches allow her to offer a deeper level of massage providing physical and emotional relaxation. She utilises her traditional massage skills alongside intuition and ceremony to create a unique experience for each client.
